About a month ago, I picked Bobby up from Lancaster, where he's been in rescue, but not found a permanent home, for a year. Idea was that he was ideal for a friend in Chippenham who wanted ... never mind; didn't work out, and Bobby who was with us last year's been back with us on foster for a month or so. Alas, Billy gets grumpy with me, Bobby jumps in needlessly to defend me and we end up with scrapping dogs; Billy's the "oddball" with his strange way of being grumpy that makes Bobby think I'm in danger - but I end up having to pull Bobby back. Alas, if it were just Bobby and Gypsy.
Anyway - I took Bobby back up to Lancaster today - a sad, sad decision. But they have a better chance that we do on our own of finding him someone special, and I was heartened to see that they know and love him when I dropped him off. He's a good dog at letting his mind be known, and whilst he wasn't ecstatic so see them, he wasn't pulling away, no showing any displeasure, so I think he's not got it too bad there. Di said she was looking forward to him joining them on their 4 mile walks, and another volunteer said it's been funny (quiet?) without Bobby being around.
Anyway - after a long drive (and he was extemporary) we had a short walk on the Lancaster Canal tow path
I will be watching Bobby when he's back on the Animal Care website in the next few days - telling people about him - and I'm told I'm welcome to call them and indeed find out a little about his new home as and when he moves on. For the right person, he'll make a true friend. Love that dog - very hard to do what I think's best for him.
