I'm delighted to announce that Santa Claus has agreed to visit Melksham once again in early December - he'll be travelling on the train that runs from Melksham Station to Swindon at 17:25 (twenty five past five) on Sunday, 2nd Decemeber 2012.

This visit has been arranged by the Melksham Railway Development Group, and this is always a popular trip. Please book your tickets (numbers are limited to 90) at the Melksham Tourist Information Centre (01225 707424), where they're on sale from Monday 15th October at 8 pounds per adult and 4 pounds per child. The price includes presents for each child, and a minced pie and soft drink for each adult, or we'll give you a glass of wine (kindly donated by a member) if you prefer.

The train gets you back into Melksham by a quarter to seven - slightly earlier than in previous years. There is plenty of free car parking at or near Melksham Station, but please arrive a few minutes early as it will be busy.

---OOO---

Trains currently run from Melksham to Swindon every Monday to Friday at 07:20 and at 19:48. Return services leave Swindon at 06:12 and 18:44. Journey time - 25 minutes each way. Day return fare - £8.60 (so Santa's weekend fare looks like a real bargain!)

On Saturday, trains run from Melksham to Swindon at 09:20 and 15:21, returning from Swindon at 15:22 and 21:08 - that gives an excellent shopping opportunity (or an opportunity to visit Steam or the Oasis) in Swindon

On Sunday, trains leave Melksham for Swindon at 17:25 and 19:53, with a return service at 18:19. If you live in Melksham but you're going to be working away for the week, why not travel by train? I often catch the 17:25 if I'm going to be working in Cambridge, and then come home on the Friday evening!

All trains that call at Melksham are on the TransWilts line ... Swindon - Chippenham - Melksham - Trowbridge - Westbury with Monday to Friday trains continuing (southbound) to Salisbury and Southampton, and northbound to Gloucester and Cheltenham. Connections at Swindon, Westbury, Chippeham and Trowbridge allow you to reach other stations by train; the most common journeys from Melksham are to Bristol (as quick as 44 minutes) and London Paddington (around a 90 minute journey).
