Today was the "Santa Special" outing from Melksham ... some 140 people gather at Melksham Station ...

The train was especially extended for us ... up to three carrages. And thank godness - for we would have been tightly squeezed with less.

Santa had gifts for all the children - and of course the chldren were delighted to see him.

Parents and Grandparents had a great time too - happiness shining through the children too.

Minced pies, soft drinks were served, and the chairman of the Melksham Railway Development Group gave a gift of a glass of wine to any adults who wanted it.

"Mind the Gap". Melksham station has a short platform, and there's quite a gap at the end. Here's cooperation as it should be - train staff, Community Rail Helper, and passengers making the railway run sweetly for a lot of people.

And ... when the train has gone and you compare to the first picture, you realise what a wonderful - and underutilised - resource we have here. Let's hope we can get this in use every daytime and evening hour, every day of the week, under the next franchise.

This was a tremendous team effort Many thanks to Peter, Peter, Margaret, Sion, Rolf, John, John, Eddy and Shiela with the Melksham Railway Development Group for all their work before and during the trip - there's a great deal of organisation ahead of time. To Richard from Wiltshire Council - I'm delighted to see the portfolio holder coming along o Sunday evening to wee the TrainsWilts as it should be. To Lisa for designing and printing the tickets, to the press for publicity, and to Melksham TIC and its volunteers for selling the tickets. Also thanks to Caroline our Train Manager, our Driver, and to Dave, Matthew, and Kingsley at First Great Western for their various help to making this a success.

Santa's elves bought all his present from retail outlets in Melksham - and they got the wrapping there too. Mince pies and boxes drinks also from Melksham - it's good to shop local.
