Light bulbs

Little did we realise in 2006 when we installed light fittings and shades at Well House Manor that took standard 60w fillament bulbs that we would be unable to purchase such bulbs any longer just five years later. And that what's on offer as replacements have different characteristics. All of the following are factors that may need to be considered:

• Quality of light
• Amount of light
• Aestheics of exposed bulbs
• Diffusion evenness
• Warm up time
• Cost of bulbs
• Life of bulbs
• Running costs
• Ongoing availability
• Safety / acceptable heating of fitting
• Flicker / effect on SAD and Migraine

Many web sites seem to provide advise - especially from those who sell light bulbs, so on that basis I have to express a degree of concern at their impartiallity. There is something on the direct government site - [here].

Yesterday, we replaced pairs of lights in five of our downstairs public / semipublic areas with a whole series of different types of bulbs, and we're going to keep an eye on how each goes, whether we feel the light is dull, how long they last, etc. Getting customer and staff feedback so that we know what suits us

There seem to be even more types of lightbulbs than paragraphs I have to write about them ;-)
