Open Source Training Schedule - learn a programming language - in Autumn 2011 or 2012

The Well House Consultants public course training schedule is now online and bookable until the end of December 2012.

We'll continue to run our successful Open Source Programming Courses at our Melksham, Wiltshire, England training centre right through next year. In each of the programming languages we teach, we offer both a "learning to progam in ..." for newcomers to programming and a "... programming" course for delegates with prior programming experience in another language.

All of our courses are written by ourselves, and are presented by a tutor who is responsible for writing and maintaining the notes. That way, you learn not only about the language, but also the ethos and reasons behind the language so that yo can make really good use of it. We ourselves have met and had training from many of the language originators and maintainers, and we make strong use of what we teach in our day to day company operation and work too.

For delegates who live beyond daily commuting distance from us, we also offer hotel rooms at Well House Manor - our training centre - which may be included in the price of your course or paid for separately. There's driving time table from different parts of the UK here, and we can provide advise on public transport - national and international too, and we'll offer you a complimentary list from Melksham station if you arrive in the town by train.

Delegates are encouraged to bring their own data along so that we can make practical exercises relevant to them, and delegates are welcome to work on their own laptops, or on our computers - it's their choice. We limit pubic class sizes to just eight delegates, so that everyone has a good opportunity to have plenty of tutor time; at the other end of the scale, we'll run a course with just one delegate - book and you are assured that the course will run (we stongly object to our industry's standard of cancelling courses on which delegates are already booked and we will not do that!).

So what's on the schedule for 2012?

• Python courses every 3 months
• Lua courses every 4 months
• C Courses every 3 months
• Perl courses every 4 months, plus advanced courses
• Tcl courses every 4 months
• C++ courses every 3 months
• Ruby courses every 4 mounths
• PHP courses every 3 months, plus advanced courses

And also:

• Linux and LAMP deployment courses every 4 months
• Apache Web Server and Tomcat courses every 4 Months
• MySQL courses every 4 months
• Regular Expression courses every 4 months

Full schedule - with links to individual courses - [here].

Some of those are a little more frequent than they have been in 2010 and 2011 ... others a little less frequent. And we have at least a week or two available each month for private courses - either at our Melksham centre, or on site. If you've got a group of 4 or more delegates who require the same course at the same time, a private course is a better option - such courses are tailored to suit your needs, and scheduled at a mutually convenient date.

2012 brings the Olympics to London in late July, and an extra public holiday on 5th June (the Spring Bank holiday is, unusually in June - on 4th), and we have avoided those dates for courses. The occasional "learning to ..." course starts on a Sunday, and the occasional advanced course extends to Saturday; we have been surprised how busy those extra weekend day courses have been in the last year, and we'll be carrying on with them from time to time.

Prices? Any 2012 courses booked prior to 31st December 2011 will be honoured at 2011 prices - they're shown on the web site, and are £350.00 for the first day and £250.00 for the second and subsequent day, with a reduction of £100.00 for the second and subsequent delegate on the same course at the same time. Hotel accommodation is £60.00 per room per night, and rooms are all double / twin which we are happy to let for single occupany. Prices quoted are without VAT, as is the norm in the training industry. We review our prices at the end of every December, and 2012 prices are not yet set. Considering that they haven't risen for several years, and inflation in the UK is now over 4%, you may find a slight increase if you book next year - but we are committed to keeping our prices competitive while not compromising on an excellent product.
