Cash and Cheque policy - UK Hotel

With the demise of the cheque guarantee card in the UK, we've updated our cash payment policy for Well House Manor ...

"If you do not wish to guarantee a room with a credit or debit card, and are not booked as part of a training course / Purchase Order, you are welcome to send us a cheque ahead of time to cover the first night's stay as a deposit. We will hold a room for up to 7 days to give your cheque time to reach us and clear. We can also accept a cheque for full payment of the rest of your stay, but that needs to be with us at least three working days ahead now that the cheque guarantee system has been discontinued by the British Banks.

"You may also pay (deposit of one night's stay and / or the rest of your stay) in cash, in advance. We recommend, however, that you do NOT post us cash.

"With cash and / or cheque payment, we have to ask for proof of identity on checkin - passport, driving license, recent utility bill or similar.

Some of this may look a bit harsh. I take sad comfort for knowing that I see similar (or even stronger) terms displayed at hotels when I stay away.
