Occasional visitors to Melksham often ask us how long it will take to get here ... and we're happy to provide estimates. I have traveled a very great deal within the UK, and based on distances, speeds, and road conditions in most areas I can come up with some reasonable guesses. Alas - it seems that at times visitors who don't ask underestimate how long they'll need, and when someone else who's not as old / well traveled answers the phone for us, they may find it harder to estimate.
So - taking the bull by the horns - I've worked out my estimate of the drive time from each of the UK's postcode areas - and from airports and ferry ports too - and added it (initially) to the demonstration area of our web site - [Journey times and weather in Melksham].
Driving times are very personal, and very unpredictable. Are you a fast driver, or a slow one? Do you like to take country routes? How often do you stop for a break? And they depend on road conditions too. I'll be very interested to look back over time at these figures and see how much they vary - and I'll be very interested in feedback from other people's personal experiences too!
Oh - people often ask about the weather, so I've added in the BBC's feed of that to the page too.
Addition - 28th August 2010. People often ask about the climate too - preparing for a trip several months ahead - so I've added a page of general climate / weather stats [here].
